Skaters beware ! Bureaucrats seemingly good intentions to help wheelchair users cross the street – may actually put many more people in wheelchairs. These rubber bumps will stop you dead in your tracks and may flip you head over heels into oncoming traffic. AVOID !
I shot this pic with my phone at President Bush’s speech on Free Trade a couple of weeks ago. Foreign trade is what makes the Miami , and consequently the USA economy expand at such a rapid pace. Know – nothing politicians seeking votes and their accomplices in the press often drown out reality with rhetoric. It sometimes seems our President , Florida Governors and Miami officials are the only politicians who understand the value of Free Trade.
Today is officially the last day of rainy season, but big storms are forecast. Overall Miami is running above average for the year, despite many long dry spells. The long term forecast for the next several months is for extreme drought – a warm sunny winter due to La Niña. We’ll see in a few months how true that is.
I snapped this phonecam shot on my porch the other day. At first I though it was a butterfly, but it was a moth, probably a very voracious clothes-munching one at that.
A beautiful late summer evening at the Biltmore Pool. Great for swimming laps and an icy martini afterwards.

The President is arriving this afternoon to speak about the benefits of Free Trade in the Americas. Trade with Latin America is one of the key forces driving Miami’s dynamic economy. He will be speaking at the Radisson Hotel on Biscayne – so stay clear of the area if you don’t want to get stuck in a major traffic jam !
