Down with Home Depot! Down with Home Depot!
The residents of Coconut Grove have a victory in their pocket against Home Depot: the local zoning board voted Monday night 8-1 to grant the appeal filed by The Grove First against the store’s residency permit. The store had been given permission to move to Coconut Grove, but the suit aims to prevent that from happening. Translation: Home Depot is a complete mess and they really need to go someplace else. And the lawsuit just might work. Which would be a very good thing.
The Grove First filed the legal motion against Home Depot, using the store on Calle Ocho as an example, as that location has proven to be a disaster. When the Calle Ocho location opened, Home Depot execs promised they would be a positive influence on the local economy; instead, the Calle Ocho store has proven to be poorly-managed, dirty, noisy, and the cause of massive traffic snarl-ups in an already-congested area.
Considering the fact that (a) most of the check-outs of Home Depot are the self-checkout machines, so they don’t have to pay actual people to work there; and (b) when you do find employees to help you, they seem to take great pleasure in treating you poorly, it is no surprise that the management of the store allowed the place to go down the toilet so fast.
